To open an account, a parent/guardian will need:

  • Child’s birth certificate or green bar-coded South African ID book or ID Smart Card or Passport
  • Child’s proof of physical address (not older than 3 months)
  • Parent/Guardian green bar-coded South African ID book or ID Smart Card or Passport
  • Parent/Guardian proof of physical address (not older than 3 months)

The guardian(s) should provide either of the following documents in order to be recognised:

  • Court order appointing guardian
  • SASSA/Social Worker letter appointing a guardian (only for SASSA grant)
  • Letter from Traditional Leader appointing guardian (applicable mainly in the rural areas)

For the safety of your account, all SMS notifications relating to the conduct of your account will be sent to your listed parent/guardian. Only your parent/guardian can make calls to the Ubank call centre to make any changes to your account.

Enjoy the benefits of the yUngsta Account up to the age of 18 years thereafter, you will be migrated to the yUng Executive Transactional Account. Remember to provide your ID/passport, proof of residence, student card and proof of registration a month before your birthday to enjoy the benefits of the yUng Executive after you’ve turned 18.
